Lot description:
Roman Imperial

Claudius. AD 41-54. Æ Sestertius (33mm, 21.45 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 42. Laureate head right / EX S C/ P P/ OB/ CIVES/ SERVATOS in four lines within oak wreath. RIC I 112. Fine, dark green patina, some smoothing.

An interesting early issue of Claudius. The emperor’s rise to power hardly merits such a laudatory reverse legend describing the emperor as having saved the citizens!

Estimate: $300
